This Bristol RESL with ECW body was a minority venture when ordered new in 1967 by South Shields
Corporation. It was one of eleven that passed on to Tyne & Wear Passenger Transport in April 1974, in whose livery it now stands. They were latterly used for cross river journeys to Wardley and Bill
Quay and on Serv. 41 through Heaton, city centre Elswick and ending at the tram terminus at Hunters Road, opposite to where the BBC Pink Palace now stands. Their rear engines and unforgiving gearboxes
impressed themselves for ever on your lower spine.
